ILLUMRA in the News
A look back at key milestones, product launches, and industry partnerships that have shaped ILLUMRA's history as a leader in self-powered wireless controls.
ILLUMRA LED Dimmers Reduce Energy by 75% at 2010 Vancouver Winter Games
ILLUMRA LED dimmers were installed on outdoor light poles along a pathway between venues at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games, reducing energy consumption by up to 75%. Each pole was equipped with light sensors, motion sensors, and ILLUMRA wireless LED dimmers that kept lights dim when the pathway was empty and ramped to full brightness when pedestrians were detected.
"By reducing the output of the lights when no one is on the pathway, customers achieve significant energy savings while maintaining security and ambiance," said Jan Finlinson, ILLUMRA Director.
ILLUMRA Announces World's First ZigBee Rocker-Style Self-Powered Wireless Light Switch (CES 2016)
At CES in Las Vegas, ILLUMRA introduced the world's first self-powered ZigBee rocker-style wireless light switch — designed for battery-free, wire-free installation in residential and commercial smart buildings. Compatible with ZigBee Green Power and ZigBee 3.0, the switch harvests energy from the motion of pressing it and is engineered to operate maintenance-free for 20+ years.
"Until now, ZigBee controls required either smartphone apps, or battery or line power," said Jan Finlinson. "We are excited to offer proven Self-Powered Wireless Switch technology to ZigBee OEMs to enable flexible switch placement, no new wires, and no maintenance."
ILLUMRA Expands to Bluetooth at LightFair 2016
At LightFair International in San Diego, ILLUMRA announced a battery-free wireless light switch using Bluetooth technology — expanding beyond its EnOcean and ZigBee product lines. The Bluetooth switch deploys EnOcean energy harvesting technology and communicates using the globally-compliant Bluetooth standard, giving OEMs a new wireless option for smart building controls.
"Today's smartphones are equipped with Bluetooth, which comes with a nice interface people are familiar with. Our switch will add a new level of convenience for users," said Jan Finlinson.
ILLUMRA Introduces Wireless M3 Valve Actuator for HVAC (2011)

ILLUMRA became the exclusive US and Canada distributor of the Kieback & Peter Wireless M3 Valve Actuator — a multi-function wireless valve actuator for continuous closed-loop control systems using EnOcean technology. The device integrates with building automation systems and serves as a self-sufficient room controller, with an average ROI payback period of two years.
"Now you can control temperature settings within your entire building or individual rooms with intelligent devices," said Finlinson.
ILLUMRA Releases Solar-Powered Wireless Door/Window Sensor

ILLUMRA launched a solar-powered wireless door/window sensor capable of reducing HVAC energy waste by 20 to 60 percent when windows or doors are left open. The sensor communicates via EnOcean protocol to thermostats, relays, room controllers, and BACnet gateways. It measures just under 4 inches, attaches with peel-and-stick mounting, and qualifies for LEED credits.
